East Bay Children’s Law Offices (EBCLO) is pleased to announce the launch of our new Juvenile Defender Office. In partnership with the Alameda County Bar Association and East Bay Community Law Center, the EBCLO Juvenile Defender Office will represent youth in Alameda County Juvenile Delinquency Court. Since 2009, EBCLO has been Alameda County’s primary provider of legal representation to children in the juvenile dependency system. EBCLO’s mission is to protect and defend the rights of children and youth through effective, vigorous and compassionate legal advocacy. The EBCLO Juvenile Defender Office will be led by Susan Walsh, who worked for the Alameda County Public Defender for 27 years, including as supervisor of the juvenile delinquency unit. Susan is currently in private practice in Alameda County where she handles serious felony and special circumstances cases. EBCLO will utilize a “holistic defense” approach to address the instability in the child’s life underlying the delinquency case and to assist youth with successfully transitioning out of the juvenile justice system. Along with East Bay Community Law Center’s Youth Defender Clinic at Berkeley Law School, EBCLO will provide a seamless access to a range of legal services and community resources to remove barriers to successful reentry and long term stability.
